Grandparents Rearing GrandchildrenCircumstances and InterventionsCalifornia State University The past decade has seen a marked increase in the number of grandparents who are rearing their grandchildren. School psychologists and counsellors are increasingly called upon to assist this growing population. This article addresses some of the key issues facing these grandparents: the emotional needs of grandchildren and grandparents, financial support, legal concerns and transitions. Suggestions for intervention strategies for school psychologists and counsellors are offered.
